ALL-DISTRICT BAND
The state of Kentucky is divided into 12 equal districts representing a cluster of bands. McCracken County is a part of the 1st District Band Association. Each year in November, students from schools within the districts have the opportunity to audition for honor of All-District Band. The All-District band is made up of the top instrumental musicians from the District. Auditions are typically held at a local high school within the district with auditions taking place on a week night in November. Students will receive audition music early in the Fall semester and will have to perform it along with sight-reading selections and scales for a blind panel of judges. Students that make the All-District band will perform on a concert held on the campus of Murray State University on the weekend of the first full week in January each year. This concert is conducted by some of the best music educators from around the State and country. Typically conducted by prestigious educators and collegiate conductors. This is a great learning/educational opportunity for our students and is also utilized in future scholarship decisions by universities. There is one middle school band and 2 high school All-District Bands. Concert Band is the Junior Varsity Band made up of around 80 students and the Symphonic Band is the top group made up of around 45 of the top students.
